Participation in special needs primary education

Number or percentage of young people (aged 0-24 years) in special needs primary education.

The publication distinguishes between primary education and special needs primary education. Primary education is intended for children aged 4-11 years and includes nursery education. Special needs primary education includes education for children with learning difficulties, children with behavioural problems, and socially disadvantaged four and five year-olds.

The figures on children in primary education are based on the yearly (1 October) enumerations by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. The figures for school year 2004/'05 refer to the situation on 1 October 2004.

All figures are rounded to the nearest 10. As a result of rounding total figures may not exactly equal the sum of the separate figures.

Data available from school year 2000/'01.
