Care provided to children aged 0-17 years, financed under the Exceptional Medical Expenses Act (AWBZ).
The Exceptional Medical Expenses Act (AWBZ) is an insurance scheme to cover the costs of long-term care to the elderly, patients with a chronic illness, people with a disability and people with long-term mental problems. Everyone resident or employed in the Netherlands is automatically insured for this care. For the age category 0-17 years, the care includes residential and non-residential long-term mental health care, and residential and non-residential long-term care for children with a mental, physical or sensory disability.
